The NEW Maestro 3D OCT camera is among the best technology for our patients. The 3D images produced by this state of the art equipment allow for the early detection of eye diseases from deep within the eye. The exam is fast, painless and comprehensive.
Using a Topcon state-of- the-art 3D OCT camera, we take both a digital photograph and a three dimensional cross sectional scan of the back of your eye in one sitting. This allows us to instantly diagnose a number of common conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular holes, or retinal detachments. The scan is non-invasive, painless, simple and quick. What’s more, the software can automatically detect even the most subtle changes to the retina with every eye test you take. This gives you an invaluable ongoing record of the health and condition of your eyes.
Many eye and brain disorders can cause peripheral vision loss and other visual field abnormalities. Visual field tests are performed by eye care professionals to detect blind spots (scotomas) and other visual field defects, which can be an early sign of these problems.
The size and shape of a scotoma offer important clues about the presence and severity of diseases of the eye, optic nerve and visual structures in the brain. For example, optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma creates a very specific visual field defect. Other conditions associated with blind spots and other visual field defects include diseases of the retina, optic neuropathy, brain tumors and stroke.
Dr. Le Gist recommends visual field testing as a part of your comprehensive eye exam to assess the full horizontal and vertical range and sensitivity of your vision. These "baseline" visual field test results can then be used to assess potential changes in your visual field in the future.
Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. We offer the optomap® Retinal Exam as an important part of our eye exams. The new Optos Daytona produces an image that is as unique as you fingerprint and provides us with a wide view to look at the health of your retina. The retina is the part of your eye that captures the image of what you are looking at, similar to film in a camera.
Many eye problems can develop without you knowing. You may not even notice any change in your sight. But, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.
